Tell a story about a time you had a plan, and it succeeded.

Digging Deeper

  • Read Acts 1:1-8.

    • What job does Jesus give the apostles?
    • Do you think this still applies to us today? Why or why not?
    • What empowerment does Jesus promise the apostles?
    • Do you think that still applies to us today? Why or why not?
  • Read the following and describe the challenge God's plan (described in Acts 1:8) faces in each text:

    • Acts 6:1
    • Acts 8:1
    • Acts 13:1-3 (hint: Where does Paul (also called "Saul") travel from now until the end of the book of Acts. How many miles is that?)
    • Acts 28:17
  • If you had an important message to tell, which of the above four (racial tension, persecution, significant travel, or imprisonment) do you think would be the most significant challenge? Why?

  • Read the following describe how God's Spirit empowers, encourages, or guides the church to continue to ministry – despite a variety of challenges:

    • Acts 4:1-17 (especially v. 8)
    • Acts 4:31
    • Acts 9:31
    • Acts 10:44-48
    • Acts 13:1-3
    • Acts 16:6
    • Acts 20:22-24

Next Steps

  • On a scale of 1 to 10, how confident are you that God has a plan?

  • How do we see the unstoppable nature of God's plan even in the cross? (Hint: Acts 2:22-24 may be helpful here.)

  • How might confidence in God's plan affect ...

    • Anxiety?
    • Making plans for your life?
    • Make plans for this summer?
    • Taking a test in school?
    • Picking hobbies?
    • Eating a meal?
