  1. What was the most fearful thing for you about learning how to swim?
  2. As you reflect on the message, was there anything that particularly encouraged, challenged, or confused you?

Digging Deeper

  1. Read Matthew 13:1-23.
    a. Why was the soil along the path ultimately unfruitful? What barriers do you have to overcome to grow in understanding of God’s Word?

    b. Why was the rocky soil unfruitful? How can you intentionally help your roots grow deep in knowing Jesus?

    c. Why was the soil among the thorns and weeds unfruitful? This heart struggles with the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches. What are the inevitable thorns and weeds that could choke out your fruitfulness?

    d. What happened to the seed that fell on good soil? The heart described by the good soil is ultimately fruitful, but good soil doesn’t just happen. How can you cultivate good soil in your heart in order to have a fruitful life?

    e. Which soil best describes you right now and why? What do you need to surrender in your life right now in order for you to be fruitful in your walk with Christ?

Application

  1. Why is the idea of surrendering to someone else difficult?
  2. How is coming to know Christ as our Lord and Savior an act of surrender?
  3. As a Christian have you ever surrendered an area of your life to God? Did you see any fruit that God produced in your life as a result?
  4. What might we stand to lose by not growing in surrendering more and more of our life to God?
